Turmeric Golden Milk: Soothing Night Drink
Golden Milk Tradition
Turmeric golden milk, or haldi doodh, is an ancient Ayurvedic drink that combines turmeric with warm milk and spices. It's soothing, anti-inflammatory, and perfect before bed.
Recipe (Serves 2)
- 2 cups whole milk (or oat/almond milk)
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- Pinch of black pepper (essential for curcumin absorption)
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- Pinch of cardamom (optional)
Method
- Combine all ingredients except honey in a saucepan
- Whisk over medium heat until steaming (don't boil)
- Simmer on low for 5 minutes, whisking occasionally
- Strain into mugs if using fresh ginger
- Stir in honey to taste
Why Black Pepper Matters
Piperine in black pepper increases curcumin absorption by up to 2,000%. Without it, your body absorbs very little of turmeric's active compound.
Upgrade Tips
Add a teaspoon of coconut oil or ghee — fat also boosts curcumin absorption. For a stronger flavor, use fresh grated turmeric root.
