Why Make Your Own?

Store-bought blends contain fillers, anti-caking agents, and often more salt than spice. Homemade blends are fresher, more flavorful, and fully customizable.

1. Taco Seasoning

Mix: 2 tbsp chili powder, 1 tbsp cumin, 1 tsp each garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, paprika. Add 1/2 tsp cayenne for heat. Use 2 tbsp per pound of meat.

2. Simple Curry Powder

Toast and grind: 2 tbsp coriander, 1 tbsp cumin, 1 tsp each turmeric, fenugreek, mustard seed, black pepper. Makes enough for 4-5 curries.

3. Za'atar

Mix: 2 tbsp dried thyme, 1 tbsp sumac, 1 tbsp sesame seeds (toasted), 1 tsp salt. Sprinkle on flatbread with olive oil.

4. Cajun Seasoning

Mix: 2 tbsp paprika, 1 tbsp each garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme. Add 1 tsp each cayenne, black pepper, salt.

5. Italian Seasoning

Mix: 2 tbsp each dried basil, oregano. 1 tbsp each dried thyme, rosemary (crushed), marjoram. 1 tsp dried sage.

Storage

All blends keep 3-6 months in airtight containers. Label with date and contents.
