Cardamom Pear Cake: Autumn Dessert
Cardamom in Baking
Cardamom adds a complex floral-citrus note that pairs beautifully with stone fruits and pears. Use freshly ground seeds from green cardamom pods for the best aroma.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- ½ cup butter, softened
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup sour cream
- 3 ripe pears, sliced
- 2 tbsp brown sugar for topping
Baking Steps
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round pan. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then sour cream.
Fold in flour, baking powder, and cardamom. Spread batter in pan. Arrange pear slices on top in a spiral pattern. Sprinkle with brown sugar.
Bake 40-45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before slicing.
