Dukkah: Egypt's Addictive Nut and Spice Blend
Egypt's Most Versatile Condiment
Dukkah is an Egyptian dry spice blend of toasted nuts, seeds, and warm spices. Its name comes from the Arabic word for 'to pound.'
Classic Recipe
- 1 cup hazelnuts (toasted, skinned) or almonds
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds (toasted golden)
- 1/4 cup coriander seeds (toasted)
- 2 tbsp cumin seeds (toasted)
- 1 tbsp fennel seeds (toasted)
- 1 tsp dried mint or thyme
- 1 tsp flaky sea salt
Method
Toast each ingredient separately until fragrant. Coarsely crush — the texture should be chunky, not powdery.
